A New Creation

“If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come” (2 Corinthians 5:17)

As Christians, forgiven of our sins and living with a new nature, we understand the need for understanding our identity. The question therefor is WHAT is our new identity?

For most of us, it’s understanding that we were destined for Hell, and because of the gift of faith, we have accepted the exchange that took place on the cross, and we are no longer headed for an eternal separation from God, but to one with Him forever.

But many of us don’t live lives reflecting that glorious identity. Instead we only see ourselves as wretched sinners, always looking at who we were, rather than what we’ve become.

Yes, we were AND ARE sinful wretches but we often wallow in that, not recognizing that is not how Jesus sees us. We are washed, clean and righteous despite our ongoing sinful lives. We will never be free of our sinful nature this side of eternity. BUT, we have repented from the one sin that matters – the sin of denying Christ. All other sins have been and will be forgiven except that one which will condemn many to Hell: The stubborn and rebellious rejection of Jesus Christ.

So, today, don’t just look at our sin nature, and the woeful creatures we can be at times, but see yourself as Christ sees you – a NEW CREATION!
