“And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:19)
The above verse speaks to where we are as a family. Kerri and I are both self-employed, which can make you think about income and money in a different way than if you have a regular paycheck.
I’m not saying that when I had a regular paycheck we didn’t think and worry about money but you knew you had a set amount coming in.
When you are self-employed there are times when the phone isn’t ringing, your inbox is empty, and your faith and trust in God has to be enough.
Looking back, we see how He has always provided what we need, yet the enemy still likes to tickle that worry bone and tell you this time is different…
“Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.” (Luke 12:15)
Too many people today are consumed with becoming rich. Those of us who follow Christ aren’t exempt from the pull and love of money. There’s good news and bad news if wealth is what you want. The good news is that God’s Word does promise riches to the believer. The “bad” news is that riches doesn’t always mean money. I’m learning to look around and be grateful and thankful for the blessings and riches God has surrounded me with already, and to be content.
“I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am.” (Philippians 4:11)
Am I really content in whatever circumstances surround me?
I see more and more that what God is trying to remind me of is that I cannot control the events and circumstances of life, but I can control your reaction to those events and circumstances. Am I reacting and responding with contentment?
I know that God supplies all of our needs, and He knows when our requests are genuine needs, or when He must redirect our thinking instead.
