For God is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. (Psalm 18:2)
There is a phrase for when a lawyer walks into court not fully prepared but who feels he can handle the hearing anyway, trusting in his own abilities and past experiences – they are trying to “cowboy” the hearing. Sometimes it will go well, often times not so much.
How often we do the same? We wake up and go into the day on our own strength rather than take time to read the Word, spend some time in prayer getting ready for the day and above all remembering who is “my rock, my fortress and my deliverer” – we have Him at the ready to be “[our] refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold…”
You were not meant to face the daily battles alone and on our own strength.
“It is in the middle that human choices are made; the beginning and the end remain with God. The decrees of God are birth and death, and in between those limits man makes his own distress or joy.” (From “Shade of His Hand” by Oswald Chambers)
