Are we there yet?

“Are we there yet?” is a familiar phrase every parents knows if you’ve taken a road trip with small children. We are like that with God, impatient to know when we will arrive but forgetting that the destination IS the journey. How many times have we thought we were planning for this particular outcome or that expected result only to find life took a sudden detour and we ended up with different goals, plans or results?

If you know me, you know I am a planner, so changes in plans if how God tests my heart. Can I be flexible and abide in Him when it looks like things have gone off the rails?

I was challenged this morning by my daily devotional from Oswald: “Am I willing to give one minute out of every hour to concentrate…”

HIs message is very deep but the point that jumped out at me is how compartmentalized my life is, and I suspect yours as well. I have my morning devotion and prayer time and then the day starts.

Oswald is challenging us to “abide in Him” throughout the day. His practical advice is to spend a minute out of every hour to sharpen us into making God part of our entire day and the lens we view everything around us. Only with that focus will our prayers, and requests we make be in alignment with His will, not ours.
