“He who is faithful in a very little thing is faithful also in much; and he who is unrighteous in a very little thing is unrighteous also in much.” (Luke 6:10)
There is a phrase that says “where there’s a will, there’s a way.”
It’s used to say that if someone has the desire and determination to do something, he or she can find a method for accomplishing it. The real question isn’t whether we have sufficient will or not – we may have the strongest will and desire for a certain outcome – but is it in alignment with His will for our lives?
Yes, we have free will and are able to pursue goals that don’t align with His will. Take a look at the latest headlines and local news stories – they are filled with examples of people who clearly are not following what God would be having them do. I’m speaking of how we respond when you know God wants you to do a certain thing. It may be a small thing, like going and talking to someone you don’t want to, offering to pray for a friend or neighbor who you know doesn’t believe in God, or some other action that you know He is prompting you to do.
Do we respond with obedience or with stubbornness? I am certainly the chief of sinners when it comes to this, as I can find all sorts of reasons to question whether I was really hearing from the Holy Spirit, or if it was just my lunch.
Today I will look for opportunities to be faithful in the small things.
