Make the Almighty Great Again

“I am God Almighty; Walk before Me,
and be blameless. (Genesis 17:1)

MAGA: Those four letters bring out all sorts of emotions from people.

Today I’m writing about a different view on these letters. We first heard of them when used by President Trump. I’m suggesting that all Christians have a different MAGA campaign we need to promote:

Make the Almighty Great Again

The roots of this “campaign” go all the way back to the first book in the Bible:

Now when Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared to Abram and said to him, “I am God Almighty; Walk before Me, and be blameless. (Genesis 17:1)

In Hebrew, the title “God Almighty” is written as El Shaddai which is conventionally translated into English as “God Almighty.” When we see God as the Almighty, we are struck by His power and by the fact that He is indeed a great, mighty, and awesome God (Deuteronomy 10:17). The identity of God as Almighty serves to establish the sense of awe and wonder we have toward Him and the realization that He is God above all things without limitation. This is important in view of how He is described next in the Bible. In Exodus 6:2-3, God said to Moses, “I am the LORD. I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac and Jacob as God Almighty, but by my name the LORD I did not make myself known to them. (This paragraph came from gotquestions.org)

It’s a word that isn’t taught or emphasized enough these days, especially when it comes to God and His might compared to ours. We often lose sight of the concept that we are here because He created this world and knew each of us “from before the foundation of the world.” (Ephesians 1:4)

Unlike Trump, God isn’t asking us to vote Him into power. He already serves and will be serving long after our time here on earth is finished. He asks instead whether we will choose to follow Christ and become a member of His eternal Kingdom.
