Living for Today

“He died for all, so that they who live might no longer live for themselves, but for Him who died and rose again on their behalf.” (2 Cor 5:15)

When a writer puts a story together they often start with the end in sight, meaning they know what the story line is, where the characters are going in their lives and how the story will end.

As we get ready to celebrate Christmas and the birth of Jesus Christ it’s good to know that from the very beginning God knew what the end of the story would be. God knew that when Jesus took his first earthly breath what would happen when He took His last.

What Christ did and accomplished between those two points in time changed history forever. Looking at how Jesus lived his life is the focus for all Christians, as we strive to live like Him as much as possible, with most of us who are truly honest with ourselves realizing that we fail Him daily. That is part of being human in a sinful world. We strive, yet fail but our hearts need to remain faithful and true. How we live our lives not only builds character and faith in us, but is a demonstration of His power to those around us.

There is a brilliant quote from a movie, Breaker Morant : “Live each day as though it were your last; one day you’re sure to be right.”

How are you living your life? What if you knew today was your last day? We all think about a bucket list of things we’d like to do before we die but if we really knew time was short what would we do?

We should strive to live each day to the fullest so that if it ended up it was our last day we would have no regrets. It’s so hard as the minutiae of life always draws us down and we all have responsibilities that need to be taken care of, so I’m not talking about ditching life, but a heart attitude of living, acting, thinking, talking and responding well in all we do so that we can have a life filled with last days lived well.
