Controlled Captivity

“We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ.” (2 Cor 10:5)

I believe that as Christians one of the largest battles we face is how we respond to events, circumstances as well as our mental thought patterns. What we need to understand is this:

You cannot control the events & circumstances of life,
but you can control your reaction to those events and circumstances.

Like a hunter with a quiver of arrows, we as Christians need to be spending time in the Word daily adding spiritual arrows to our quiver, so that when we have thoughts in our mind we don’t want, we have the tools provided by God to battle them with. Replace those unhealthy thoughts with Godly thoughts that are scripture based.

Here are a few “starter” verses for you to keep handy and meditate on:

  • “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” (2 Tim 1:7)
  • “And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:19)
  • “Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord, trust in him and he will do this.” (Psalm 37:4-5)

As Christians we need to remember we are not battling daily to keep our salvation, but to work it out and maintain a Godly mind and heart. Having these verses ready helps me to know how to respond well to people and events around me as Christ would have be respond.

It’s still a battle and will likely be one until I take my last breath. Join me in the battle.
