“The steps of a man are established by the Lord, and He delights in his way. When he falls, he will not be hurled headlong, because the Lord is the One who holds his hand.” (Psalms 37:23-24)
It is comforting to know that God is directing our steps when we allow Him to, and place our faith in His guidance and direction.
But notice what follows – “When he falls…” Not if, but WHEN. That means we are going to fall whenever we are moving forward. Life has stops and starts, and in those moments it will feel like we are failing and falling. But then when you read the rest of the verse you see that God will be right there holding our hand, just like we help a child walk and holding their hand if they stumble we make sure they don’t fall but are able to keep going forward.
This is very encouraging as we will all encounter challenges in life even when we think we are moving on God’s path. Even though we are moving in the right direction, life still happens and as always the test is how we respond when things seem to go off course.
As long as I am placing my hand in His and allowing Him to guide my steps even if there is a stumble, He will be there to keep me safe.
