Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened,
and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)
Notice Jesus doesn’t just tell us He will give us rest, but He prompts us to act first – “Come.” He always stands ready to provide us shade from the harsh light of life that is causing us to be burdened. When we climb into His lap for rest it means we start not just by coming, but then by laying down at His feet our burdens so we can rest.
It’s not an act of submission, but of an act of self will that we need to train and develop to set aside cares and burdens for Him to carry so we can rest. It is one of the hardest things for us humans to do, as the enemy wants to convince us NEVER to let them go. He wants us to keep on being bent over with them, fiddling with them in our mind, convincing us that WE are the only ones who can solve the problem.
Whatever you are carrying today, set it aside and rest.
There is plenty of time to pick it up again later if necessary but take time to sit with Him and let His rest cover you.
