If you love me, keep my commands. (John 14:15)
When we are saved through our acceptance of Jesus death on the cross for our sins we are presented with a choice of what we will do and how we choose to live our life.
That is the road of discipleship, or sanctification to be more precise. It is a not a mandatory road, but it’s hard to be a follower of Christ and not want to know more about Him and His will for our life. As Oswald writes below, we are not given rules, but a standard for our life.
You and I have a choice of how far on that road we will walk. At times the lessons are hard ones for sure, and we never reach the end of the road as long as we are in these mortal bodies. There is always more for us to learn, more for us to grow, and more ways for us to be molded.
The failure to walk this road is not a salvation issue – your salvation was accomplished on the cross and was finished the moment you accepted Christ as your Lord and Savior. This is the abundant life calling to you. In John 10:10, Jesus said, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly”
