God + Nothing = Everything

“And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:19)

We all have needs that need filling and thankfully God’s method for meeting them is very simple. Our needs will be met with His riches. Not what we want, but what He knows we need, which are often very different. The world thinks of needs as physical needs and many times that is the case, but many times what we need is not just material but spiritual as well.

I think the biggest challenge we have in the world today is separating want from need. We’re about to head into the Christmas season when advertisers will portray all sort of goods that we and our families MUST have, and will awaken in us the feeling that we are less than others if we don’t have the newest of everything.

Contentment with what we have is a rare quality these days. Having an older phone, driving an older car, and not having the latest of everything seems quaint and out of date to some. It’s easy to struggle in this area when we are constantly bombarded by the media as well as seeing those around us who seem to have the latest and greatest. Don’t get me wrong – I love gadgets and gizmo’s galore! (Bonus points for the movie reference…)

But we need to be content with what we have and not think we need the latest & greatest version of whatever it is. I need to look around and see how incredibly blessed we are already with what God has supplied us with!

I pray that God will help me to not just be content but to look to Him to meet my needs.
