Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth laborers into his harvest. (Matthew 9:38)
Imagine working for someone you never got to meet or talk to.
How would you receive instructions? How would you know if you were doing a good or bad job? How would you know what to do next?
Sounds silly but it’s how many of us live our Christian lives. We go about our day without “checking in” to see what our Master has on the plate for us today. And when we do decide to see if He is available we start off with what we want. How long would we last on a job if all we did was tell our boss what we wanted him to do for us?
I am as guilty of this as many others. It feels unnatural to stop everything and just talk to our Father. That is our sin nature that wants to keep us thinking that we got this, and we don’t need any help from anyone, fanning the flames of our independence.
The truth is we have access to Him anytime. There are no “office hours” we have to respect. He is waiting for us to come and ask us how He wants to use us. Not in spectacular ways, but in everyday dull ways that make us useful to Him.
We have no idea of how simple acts in our daily lives can speak to others. It may just be seeds to plant, it may be watering seeds others have planted and it may be harvesting of those ready to come to know Christ.
It all starts with an open and ready heart, listening for the Master’s voice of what He would have us do today.
