I’m a Belliever!

Offer yourselves as slaves to righteousness leading to holiness. (Romans 6:19)

There was a song when I was growing up – “I’m a Believer.” The chorus is about seeing a woman’s face and falling forever in love. (Bonus points if you know who wrote the song without having to look it up. HINT: It wasn’t any of the Monkees. Spoiler below.)

OK, so here is the transition: Do we remember Who saved us and fall in love with Him? Are we in forever love with Jesus?

When we accept Christ as Lord of our lives, we are acknowledging that we have no power to save ourselves. It is ONLY through His sacrifice that we can be spared from the eternal damnation we are all headed for. Once that happens we should fall in forever love with Christ. We should be filled with gratitude for all He has done for us, as well as all He will keep doing for us as we mature in our walk with him.

But what happens to move of us as we move along in life is we tend to get spiritual amnesia and start trying to make ourselves holy, and solve our own problems. We forget our first love. We fail to comprehend the magnitude of what Christ did for us that day 2000 years ago.

With great apologies to Neal Diamond, this is a “revision” of the chorus to I’m a Believer:

Then I saw His face, now I’m a believer
Not a trace of doubt in my mind
I’m in love
I’m a believer, I couldn’t leave Him if I tried
