God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. (2 Corinthians 5:21)
Understanding exactly how sin operates in us is key to understanding what exactly Christ did for us when he voluntarily sacrificed Himself for us.
Sin is not just things we do wrong, it is the fact that we were born hardwired with a sin nature. It is part of who we are and the only remedy is to accept the gift of salvation that fundamentally changes us into who God created us to be.
Does that mean that we are then “cured” from sin? NO! We will fight that battle as long as we are here on this planet. The sheer magnitude of what Christ did is what the enemy wants us never to think about, for he knows that is where the war is lost.
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” (2 Corinthians 5:17)
We are to be new creations in Him.
Christ knows we still live in these earthly sinful bodies and that we will battle our sin nature as long as we live but His desire is that we rest in the knowledge that He defeated sin once and for all. Our eternal destination is changed.
Our job? Display as much as possible our new nature in all we do, think and say so that others will come to know of this same regeneration that is available to all who will accept the understanding of their sin nature and the only cure available for it.
