He replied, “This kind can come out only by prayer.” (Mark 9:29)
“I wanna do it by myself!”
We’ve all seen a child who wants to do something themselves they aren’t ready for or able to. It’s part of our fallen human nature that wants to be independent. It shows up in our spiritual life as well in areas that we are still immature in. We want to do things ourselves and in our own power. The Holy Spirit stands at the ready, never forcing Himself upon us, waiting for our submission and acknowledgement of the need for Him.
We will be in a state of exhaustion if we always operate under our own power. God is the ultimate sustainable energy source and we need to tap into that, at least to carry His peace and grace throughout our day. As I look at the news and what is happening in the world it’s no wonder people feel so down. Without the promise of the blessed hope of Christ’s return for His bride, and our eternal destination, life on this chaotic planet seems hopeless. For those who don’t know Christ it is.
That’s where we come in. We should be beacons of light in the darkness of the world. We are called to be on a rescue mission to the world – to be lampstands for Him. Not to draw attention to ourselves with our own power, but to reflect His glory to those around us can be drawn and led to Him.
Our salvation is about us, but how we live our life isn’t.
