“If you can do anything, take pity on us and help us.” “‘If you can’?” said Jesus. “Everything is possible for one who believes.” (Mark 9:22)
We’ve all discovered that “adulting” is much harder than we imagined it would be when we were in children.
If you’ve walked with the Lord for any length of time, we also expected that our Christian walk will be much different when we “grow up” and mature in the faith. We discover life can be pretty much the same as before in many ways. We still have to work, pay the bills and take care of things but we have this indescribably peace in our hearts because we know this life is not all there is, and our eternal destination has been changed.
We also have times of great joy, peace and time with the Lord.
Whether it be a solo get away, a church retreat, or some other “mountaintop” time of refreshment and those are always amazing by they are meant to recharge not replace our time in the everydays of life. As Oswald Chambers says “…but it is in the valley that we have to live for the glory of God. We see His glory on the mountain, but we never live for His glory there. “
Sometimes we don’t have to get away for a mountaintop time. There are some days that a morning time with the Lord feels like a get away, a time to step aside if only for a little while to top off our spiritual batteries for the day. But the point is these moments are meant to be just that:
Moments.
We are of no use to Him and the Kingdom if we seek to spend all our time looking for the mountain.
There are those in the valley who desperately need to know Christ. We need to follow his example. His times of solitude were for inspiration only, as He that His purpose was to look for the lost, and to teach others to do the same.
