Jesus took the Twelve aside and told them, “We are going up to Jerusalem.” (Luke 18:31)
You’ve heard the phrase that “slow and steady wins the race” from the famous tortoise vs. the hare race in Aesop’s fables. The same concept there – keep moving forward applies to our Christian walk. We are called to keep on moving through no matter what we encounter.
The following from an Oswald Chambrs devotional says the following: “Nothing ever diverted our Lord on His way to Jerusalem. He never hurried through certain villages where He was persecuted, or lingered in others where He was blessed.”
I think there is a lesson there for us. When we are in HARD times, we lean on the Lord and keep moving. When we are in GOOD times, we also lean on the Lord and keep moving.
Why?
Because whether we are in good times or bad, they are all transitory moments in the grand scheme of eternity.
Another phrase comes to mind: “This too shall pass.” Although this sounds like it comes from a bible verse it doesn’t, but it’s a good reminder that all seasons are just that – seasonal – meaning they pass when it’s time for the next season and will not last forever. It mirrors the thought of Galatians 6:9, which says,
“And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.”
So whatever season you are in remember if it is a tough one, a better one is coming and the Lord will be your peace and comfort while the current one is here. If you are in a good season, enjoy it and praise God for the peace and comfort that brings to you, while being mindful that while here on earth there will be tough times.
Let your faith allow you to be prepared for what may come so that you will not be unduly shaken.
Or, as that famous blue fish would say, “Just keep swimming…”
