I have finished the work which You have given Me to do. (John 17:4)
Living a life committed to Christ is NOT living like a prisoner of war – we are not captives behind enemy lives that are put into a camp to be held until the war is over and then our fate is decided. NO!
We are ambassadors of Christ, who are sent behind enemy lines to spread the good news that our eternal destination is already decided. Many times we live like POWs, simply waiting for the war to be done so we can go home. I’m guilty of that.
“But concerning that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only.” (Matthew 24:38)
“Come, Lord Jesus!” has been my prayer many a day – wanting to speed up the blessed hope to today! It could be, or it could be weeks, months or years like generations before us. If you watch the news with eyes for eternity it doesn’t seem possible when you look at recent events, but we don’t know, nor are we called to live our lives at an eternal bus stop waiting to be picked up. There are people around us who need to be on that bus as well!
It starts with having a heart for other people. Some days that can be hard but you never know what conversation will follow from a kind word to a stranger, a simple gesture to someone in need, reaching out to a neighbor, etc. It may start with something as simple as inviting them to church with you. Or there may be a conversational opening to share the gospel and how it changed your life.
All of us need to stop living like a prisoner of war, and look for ways to live as a recruitment officer.
This post is dedicated to Charlie Kirk, who was the best
example of someone who lived their life like this.
