“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord.” (Isaiah 55:8)
As a parent, remember the times when you had to send your child to their room to think over something they did that was wrong? In those moments, from the child’s point of view we seemed very distant and uncaring.
But we weren’t.
We were doing something with the long term view of their ultimate growth and development so they would grow up to be well behaved adults.
Now, take away the punishment aspect and think of this concept in terms of how we expect God to act with us. We expect Christ to always be our friend, and He is! But we don’t understand when things don’t go they way as want them to, or prayers aren’t answered how we expected.
We think our Friend is suddenly distant and uncaring.
He isn’t.
If we look back on our live we can see clearly how God was moving in our lives in ways we didn’t understand at the time.
Truthfully there will be moments in our life that this side of heaven we may never understand what God was doing.
We must understand that our Father is not like our earthly parents, who were human like us with failings and imperfections. He is a perfect Father, who is looking out for our best even when it doesn’t feel like it.
He is always taking the eternal view, not the short term view.
