Gratitude

The three mighty warriors . . . drew water from the well near the gate of Bethlehem and carried it back to David. But he refused to drink it; instead, he poured it out before the Lord. (2 Samuel 23:16)

The core of our being must be centered on gratefulness.

We are grateful first because of what Christ did for us that changed our eternal destination.

After that, we must be grateful for the peace, joy and blessings He provides for us while we make our way through life on this sinful planet awaiting the blessed hope that is nearer every day.

The other thing that hits me is being grateful not just in the good times, but when things are hard. When we read about Job, who is the ultimate example of having a very bad season in his life, we see Job was able to not get angry with God in the midst of losing everything. When his wife saw all that had happened to him and yet saw that her husband was not cursing God she said to him “Do you still hold fast your integrity? Curse God and die.” But he said to her,

“You speak as one of the foolish women would speak. Shall we receive good from God, and shall we not receive evil?” In all this Job did not sin with his lips. (Job 2:9-10)

Today look for opportunities to be grateful in the midst of the seemingly good and the seemingly bad going on around you.
