Be holy, because I am holy. (1 Peter 1:16)
We were created to be holy.
We think we aren’t worthy of being holy because in and of ourselves we are not worthy. It is only through Christs atonement that we are. It’s like a layer of Kilz paint that covers up stains and imperfections on a wall so that new paint can allow the wall to shine when new paint is applied. The stains are still there but you can’t see them. It’s the same with us – Christs sacrifice covers over our unworthiness.
We also overcomplicate things. Being holy simply means that we are set apart for a specific purpose. It doesn’t mean we have this magic aura about us, or a floating halo above our heads. Some of the most holy people are the most down to earth. They go about their day KNOWING they are set apart for God’s purposes and His glory. They are not distracted by the things of the world going on around us.
That doesn’t mean we are necessarily uninformed of world events, it just means we should not be consumed by them, nor does it take our focus off of Christ. In fact the more things get crazy in the world the more peace a Christian has, as we see things falling together, not falling apart.
Disconnect today from allowing the world to pull you into it. See yourself as worthy of God’s holiness and look for ways to be set apart for His purposes.
