When you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father . . . who sees what is done in secret. (Matthew 6:6)
Imagine you have a friend or family member who lives on the other side of the country so you only get to talk to them on the phone. When you hear from them them they do nothing but talk to you.
It’s great stuff, but there never is space for you to reply back, answer or join in. When they are done they simply hang up! That would be frustrating, right?
Don’t we do the same with our prayer life? When we pray, part of the process is listening for an answer. Simple, but true!
I think daily prayer goes hand in hand with daily time in the Word where those answers often come to us. His word is filled with his thoughts toward us, as well as where the answers lie to many of our questions.
For many of us the big battle is not just setting aside time daily to spend with Him, but not just doing one or the other. We should not just Read the Word or have prayer time. Both are important as well as not just compartmentalizing the morning time – it’s a concentrated time that you then carry with you into your day.
And I know I’m not the only one that has my mind start to think of all the things that need to be done today when I sit down for my morning quiet time. That is the enemy who knows how powerful this time is to set up your day.
Establishing and keeping with this daily habit doesn’t mean your days will be trouble free, but it means you will be better prepared to respond better to the challenges life will throw your way, and not just for yourself.
At work or in the marketplace you may be the example of Christ someone else needs to see today who needs to see that Christians are indeed different not because of who we are, but because of Who we know.
