“We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ,…” (2 Corinthians 10:.5).
In 2nd Corinthians 10, Paul talks about confronting false teaching and church discipline and in verse 5 he says a phrase that is poignant.
When I think about this phrase I think about how many lies the Enemy (Satan) puts in our heads. It’s then that I realize that we cannot think whatever we want to think. Satan will trick us into thinking that it was our idea so we own it.
When Paul says, “we take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ” he’s reminding us that we are in charge of our thoughts and not vice versa.
Some of us believe that what comes in our minds, just gets to come in and we don’t have any control over if they stay there or not.
That’s not true.
Although we cannot always guard what comes in, we can guard what stays in.
The issue is not what the first thought is, but what the second thought is.
