Depart from Me!

“And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’” (Matthew 7:23)

This has to be one of the most frightening verses in the bible – we’re not talking about those who have rejected Christ and are destined for eternity in hell, but those who profess to know Jesus and do good things for Him. That’s because Christ doesn’t look at what we DO, he looks at Who we KNOW.

Do we know Him and seek a daily relationship with Him? And not just in compartmentalized portions of our day – do we talk to Him through the day while at work or with people silently seeking Him? We can talk to Him, worship Him, remember His Word all through the day as we go about our life. My goal is to try to make Him a part of my daily life, not just a morning segment and then I get on with life.

But we must set aside that time for devoted to seeking Him.

Getting His Word into us, even if it’s only small bits in the morning, is how we can know and understand what He wants for our life and then we have a part of Him to carry through our day. What I read today will percolate in my mind and spirit through the day and will bring forth His thoughts in my mind, replacing the thoughts and cares of the world.

“Are you more devoted to your idea of what Jesus wants than to Jesus Himself?” (Oswald Chambers)
