A quiet Companion

Do not quench the Spirit. (1 Thessalonians 5:19)

The Holy Spirit is our constant, and very often, quiet companion.

“The sense of warning and restraint that the Spirit gives comes to us in the most amazingly gentle ways. And if you are not sensitive enough to detect His voice, you will quench it, and your spiritual life will be impaired.” (Oswald Chambers)

How many times have I blown past that still small voice telling me not to think that, say that, do that, etc.? It is usually only with spiritual hindsight that I can look back and realize He was there trying to steer me in the right direction and help me to see where my inner sin nature was steering me wrong.

As long as we live in these earthly bodies we will continue to have struggles, temptations and hard times walking righteously before the Lord. Yet he graciously sent us a Helper to make sure we are never truly alone.

We can either shut out his voice and with time He will become hard and harder to hear, or we can welcome it, and his guidance will become easier to follow.
