Elijah went up to heaven in a whirlwind. . . . And Elisha saw him no more. (2 Kings 2:11–12)

The Christian life at times can be solitary.

That doesn’t mean it has to be lonely, as Jesus wants us to look first to Him for relationship and companionship. If we depend too heavily on earthly relationships we will inevitably be let down, just as those who rely on us will also be let down. Why? Because we live in sinful bodies in a sinful world. It’s not a matter of if I will disappoint someone, but when – it’s part of life on this planet until we are taken from these mortal bodies and given our uncorrupted ones.

That doesn’t mean we become cynics, looking for the next letdown and who will disappoint us next, but it means we have a healthy respect for the promise that Christ alone will never disappoint us, will never break His promises. Even when things look bleak, in God’s care, even bad things become good. God has a way of working all things together for His good.

“And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” (Romans 8:28-29)

So today, when it feels like you are all alone and it’s you against the world, remember you are not alone.

Remember these verses with His promises:

– “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” (Hebrews 13:5)
– “And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever” (John 14:16)
