Jesus would not entrust himself to them . . . for he knew what was in each person. (John 2:24-25)
We are not islands but are surrounded by people, and it is from other people that most of our wounds come from.
That is because we put too much hope in what others can do for us vs. understanding that the only Person who will never let us down is Christ.
That also means we need to lower expectations of what others are able to provide. We can’t control someone else, so why do we put our happiness on what others can do for us? We actually need to seek peace and joy, not happiness as happiness depends on things happening, where peace and joy are there regardless of what goes on around us.
And, also very important, is this doesn’t mean we look down on others or discount the value of relationships. We are created for community, so we NEED people, but we need to look for fulfullment in Christ, not others.
