Shortly before dawn he went out to them,
walking on the lake. (Mark 6:48)
“Are we there yet?”
How many times have we heard this from our children? Better yet, how many times has God heard something like this from us? We get so focused on a goal, a particular event or some other milestone and can tend to blow past the journey towards the goal. Many times the process of getting something accomplished does more in us, especially when things don’t work out as planned or hoped.
We need to develop the habit of stopping along the way in our journey of life to assess things. That is most important when things aren’t going like we think they should – rather than asking God why it’s happening, we need to ask Him what is it He wants us to learn from what is happening. Are we focused on God’s purposes or ours?
If you look at very many “successful” people by the worlds standards we should pray we never have that kind of success!
“Seek ye first the kingdom of God” (Matthew 6:33)
How different the world would be if every single believer started the day with a statement like this:
“Father in heaven, I want Your approval more than the approval of men…show me how I can bring You pleasure today.”
The culture as we know it would be turned upside down because we would see mighty works of God on a regular basis.
