What does your heart say?

“…For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.” (Matthew 12:34)

We all think we are good people, but there are dark recesses in our minds and souls that we don’t like to admit are there.

At times words come out of our mouth (or thoughts into our mind) that reveal the darkness within. Even though we are saved we are still sinful creatures in sinful bodies living in a world ruled by sin, so we don’t need to hide in shame, but part of our sanctification journey of discipleship is allowing God to shine a light in those corners to highlight what remains in us that holds us back from becoming more like Christ.

The most honest prayer we can every say is the same one the tax collector prayed: “God, be merciful to me, a sinner!” (Luke 18:13)
