Motivation

Unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven. (Matthew 5:20)

What motivates you?

What does that word mean? It’s a verb and it is when we have an incentive or a reason for doing something; or we are enthusiastic about something.

Living the Christian life at times can seem unmotivating. Life is challenging and overwhelming and the last thing we have the “enthusiasm” for is morning devotions, prayer time, or some other discipleship habit so we will skip it just for today. Then “just today” stretches into a couple days.

Where would your relationship be with your wife or your family if you skipped a day of being with them? Some of you already have, so you can see the results. Relationships can’t be put on the shelf and picked up when it’s convenient for YOU.

With another human being when the relationship is ignored the other person suffers. Not so with God. He is just fine without us, but He doesn’t want to be without us. In fact even while we were still sinners and even knowing we would ignore Him from time to time he still decided to send Christ to earth to die for YOUR SINS so you wouldn’t have to be spent eternity without Him.

That should be our motivation for getting up and turning our first thoughts to Him, then developing the habit of keeping our thoughts on Him through the day, and then developing the habit of looking for others around us who need to hear the message so they can have the same joy and motivation.

Time is running out and Jesus is coming soon.
