Choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve. (Joshua 24:15)
We all know Joshua 24:15, and chances are many of us have a sign or some other decoration in our house that has a portion of the verse – the one we all quote which is in the picture above.
But that is only a portion of the verse and there is a VERY important part in the first portion where Joshua was speaking to all of Israel.
Here is the full verse, and I capitalized the portion to emphasize for this post:
“And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the Lord, CHOSE THIS DAY WHOM YOU WILL SERVE, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”
The life of a Christian is one of CHOICE.
You don’t have to follow Christ but if you do it is a decision each of us has been confronted with at some point in our life. To be a Christian means we made a deliberate decision deep down in our soul to recognize the God of the universe and not just follow Christ but serve Him as the risen Lord.
What will you do with that choice? Will you truly lay down your right to yourself and choose to follow the One who created you, knows your every need, your every worry, your every care and every weakness?
Serving Him will be one of the most satisfying decisions you ever make. It will not keep you from the troubles of the world, but He will carry you through them.
