Do not fret—it leads only to evil. (Psalm 37:8)
Don’t Worry – Be Happy!
If you’re like me, reading the above reminds you of the song by the same name. It sounds so simple when you listen to the lyrics – just don’t worry!
How simple to say and difficult to carry out. We don’t need anything big to happen to us to give us something to worry about.
We can wake up with enough anxiety to distract us for the entire day if we give in to it. Oswald Chambwers says “We tend to think that a little anxiety and worry are simply an indication of how wise we really are, yet it is actually a much better indication of just how wicked we are. Fretting rises from our determination to have our own way.”
That doesn’t mean we ignore real problems and issues that confront us our our families. It means we do what we can, but leave the result up to God. Our ability to rest in the storms of life is the true test of our relationship with the One who made the world and who has, for whatever reason, engineered your circumstances to have you where you are today.
