Start (and end) with the Mirror

Judge not, that you be not judged. (Matthew 7:1)

“Stop having a measuring stick for other people. There is always at least one more fact, which we know nothing about, in every person’s situation. ” (Oswald Chambers)

Sometimes not just observing others but passing judgements on them can rise to an Olympic level sport. And, sad to say, Christians are often among the top medal contenders. It’s sad to say that those in the church can be the most judgmental of others, completely forgetting how much we ourselves deserve judgment.

That is where the inspection should end – by holding the mirror up to ourselves and us alone. God will take care of the others. It’s our goal and His will for our lives that any efforts spent inspecting others be turned inward in order to make us into the person He wants us to become.

Today I will strive to look at others with compassion and on myself as the one who needs change.
