But our Citizenship is in Heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. (Philippians 3:20)
Citizenship is a hot topic these days with all the deportation activity going on. Being a Citizen of a country carries rights and privileges, and the world is focusing on how those who are in our country legally or illegally should be treated.
For those os us who look to Jesus as our King, we know which kingdom we belong to, and where our ultimate citizenship is. We are not born into that kingdom, but our voluntary acceptance of Christ’s sacrifice allows us to become born again and given citizenship in His eternal kingdom.
Ultimately, there are two eternal kingdoms – One with Christ as King, and the other for those who refuse in the temporal existence to bend the knee and acknowledge Him.
Today, as I contemplate this on the start of my 67th journey around the sun, I am eternally grateful for His sacrifice that allowed me to become a citizen of His kingdom, and I watch with holy anticipation to see what the coming year holds.
If you’re reading this and haven’t made that decision, I pray that today would be the day you do so, and change your eternal destination.
Billy Graham had a very simple gospel message: “I have one message: Jesus Christ came, He died on a cross, He rose again, and He asked us to repent of our sins and receive Him by faith as Lord and Savior, and if we do, we have forgiveness of all of our sins.”
