Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. (Colossians 3:16)

“Consider how we treasure letters from people we love. Our response to Scripture should be even stronger. The Creator of the universe – the God who holds eternity in His hand – recorded all the truth that is necessary for His children to live fully and joyfully, both before and after death.” (Dr. Charles Stanley)

What struck me about this quote was not that God recorded all of His truth, but he recorded all the Truth NECESSARY for us to live fully and joyfully. The Bible that we read and treasure so dearly is God’s recorded words to us, but is not all He has to say to us. That is why we can hear from Him fresh and new daily and all through our lives! When someone writes an autobiography it doesn’t contain everything about them – it records what they wants people to know about them. If you were to meet that person and get to know them you would quickly realize there is much more to them than was contained in the pages of their book.

The Bible is the same – it is not ALL there is to say about God and His creation, but it is what He knew we would need to have available to know His truth for our lives, so that we would be able to continually be reminded of his love for us. That is a message we need to hear over and over again. Especially on days where life is hard. Hardships and bad days are inevitable in this world, but God does not desire that we be devastated, or lose faith in Him. Why? Because we know that God has promised to work everything out for His good. (Romans 8:28) Read that again – he hasn’t promised to work everything out for OUR good, but for His.

Reading His word on a regular basis will fill us with His messages that were provided for us to know Him more deeply so we are filled with His truth that will get us through our not so good days and help us soar on our great days.
