Always Shining

“Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow.” (James 1:17)

Some parts of the country have had what feels like their share of rain already, while the rest of us will likely have our share in the comng months when spring arrives. When rainy season is upon us we can miss missed bright sunny days.

Life can be the same way – when we have rough periods in our life we can miss the “bright” days when it felt like everything was well with the world and our soul. In those times we can be tempted to think that God isn’t near, or doesn’t care but that is never the case.

From our perspective the light of the sun is always changing, because the earth is rotating and weather is always changing, but the sun itself is always shining. Even on the darkest dreariest day when the rain is pouring, if you were to get high enough above it the sun is still shining bright. The sun never changes and any shadows that come between the sun and us are not caused by the sun, but by earthly events and weather patterns.

It’s the same with God and us.

We have bright seasons and darker ones, but God does not change. Any shadows in our life do not change his unchanging love and mercy that is always reaching out towards us. There are no shadows with the Father of Lights and we should never doubt his love or goodness when “shadows” come, which are the difficulties of life on this earth.

One of the biggest tricks of the enemy is to convince is that God is holding out on us, or that his light has gone away never to return.

One of our biggest victories is understanding that his light never changes no matter our circumstances.
