“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” (Romans 12:2)

The world wants to control our minds, yet God wishes to transform our minds and think above what the world offers us. If you allow the world to control your thinking, you are a conformer. If you allow God to control your thinking, you are a TRANSFORMER. (Adapted from Warren Weirsbe, “Be Right”)

The place most of us first experience the pressure to conform is school, particularly high, yet that social and peer pressure is still there even after graduation. Social media, television commercials and society in general blast us with messages of what everyone else is doing, saying and thinking. The world makes it seem so attractive to join in and conform to what the world wants us to look and sound like. In other words, the call of the world is seeking to control who we are in every way possible.

God speaks to us as individuals with a much different call: Be transformed into His thinking that is above all else.

He doesn’t seek to conform us in order for us all to be identical. We are each created with unique qualities that make us special to Him. His transformation keeps that, and we no longer should seek to become like the world or seek its approval.

How many want to be controlled? Or do you want to be someone who is not only transformed but then capable of helping others to transform in their living and thinking?
